frequently asked questions

Tracking numbers and shipping times.

A tracking number will be emailed to you once we print your shipping label. Sometimes it can end up in your spam folder. Due to our busy schedule, and small size, sometimes we print out shipping labels in bulk, and then ship orders out over a period of a few days to a week or more. We always recommend if this is a rush order, to let us know.

I live in the SF Bay area, can I pick up my order and save on shipping?

In the past, we would allow orders to be picked up, or we would drop off to save on shipping. However, with our busy schedule this is hard to coordinate. If you live in San Francisco, I could drop off. Just email me first.

How can I save money on shipping?

To save money, rates to businesses are cheaper than to homes, so have your order shipped to your work. Also, don't order one jar of jam. If you order 3-4 jars, the rate only goes up a dollar or two, so the best way to save on shipping is to order as much as you can afford. Our products have a long shelf life of 1-2 years, so you can stock up and save a lot.

An item I want is sold out. Can I get on a waiting list?

Yes. Simply click on the link to the left: get sale and new product info. You can sign up for text message alerts when limited release items are available or when we have sales.

Do you have a mailing list? How do I find out about sales?

Each new customer's email is added to our mailing list. We send out several emails a year with seasonal sales. You can also sign up for text messsage alerts at the link to the left. Or if you purchase something, your email is automatically added to our email list.

Why is sugar in jam?

Jam is an ancient way of preserving fresh fruit from the days before refrigeration. The idea of making jam is the same concept as any type of preserving, including making dried fish and meat. This involves removing the water and substituting it with an ingredient that will prevent it from spoiling. Sugar and salt are the two most common preserving ingredients due to not only their power in preventing spoilage, but also enhancing flavor. Cooking fruit with sugar and boiling off the water in the fruit and putting it at a very hot temperature into a sterile jar allows it to be stored for many years if properly done. There needs to be a minimum amount of sugar or salt used and experienced preservers learn what is a safe amount. Our products are made with the minimal amount of sugar possible, but also sugar is added to achieve the right balance of flavor as well as consistency. Jam is a truely unique creation that transforms fruit into something magical. Eaten in moderation with a well balanced diet and exercise, jam is one of the joys of life, just like chocolate!
